Frequently Asked Questions

Pricing

Q: How does pricing work?

A: Guests who would like to join pay one price based on the room they'd like to be in.  This one price includes the cruise, $50 onboard credit, event access, and the event merch.

Q: Do I need to pay everything upfront?

A: If you are booking before December 9 you can hold your room with a $250 per person deposit.  After December 9 bookings will require full payment.

Q: I am ready to book!  Now what?

A: Please click on the "Register" link on the home page.  This will take you to the booking page.

Q: Are there cancellation fees?

A: Yes.  There will be fees both through the cruise line as well as Horizon Cruise Planners.  Prior to January 1st, there will be a $100 per person cancellation fee through HCP as well as any other fees the cruise line may charge.  After January 1st, the penalty will be 100% of your purchase.

Q: Are there any other "hidden" fees?

A: The cruise line will charge a daily gratuities charge that is shared among the crew.  It's unfortunate, but this way you do not need to feel like you have to tip during your cruise.

Q: The pricing shown is more expensive than Royal Caribbean's website.  Why?

A: Each room has a built in upcharge added in as this is a premium experience.  The upcharge goes to paying professionals to assist, the card inventory, getting the product to Florida, and the prize pool enhancements.

Q: I have a special circumstance, such as a small-group, I'm a Veteran, a senior, or I am just plain awesome at Magic.  Can I get a discount?

A: Nope, pricing is set.

Inclusions

Q: What's included with my ticket?

A: When you book this event, your ticket will include the 6-night cruise and $50 onboard credit per room.  Magic players will get an event playmat, lanyard, pack of sleeves, and access to the MTG organized gaming.

Q: Are flights included witih my ticket?

A: No.  Flights are separate.  We are happy to assist you with flight booking if needed.  This is a complimentary service we provide.

Q: I am a Magic player but my friend/spouse is not.  Do they also get the Magic items?

A: No, due to the sheer volume of product we have to bring to Florida, only MTG participants will get the Magic inclusions.

Q: Are beverage packages or internet packages included in the price?

A: No, but you can purchase various add-ons.  Please visit Royal Caribbean's website for package add-on pricing and details.

Guests

Q: Can more than two people be in a cabin?

A: This is based on room availability as not all cabins can hold more than two.  Please inquire through the "Contact Us" link.

Q: What if my friend/spouse doesn't play Magic?

A: That's okay!  They are still welcome!  Guests often times enjoy other amenities the cruise ship offers while we play MTG.  However, event merch is for players only.

Cruising

Q: I've never cruised before, what should I expect?

A: Cruising by itself is a blast, but even more so when you share the adventure with fellow Planeswalkers.  We want to make sure you are comfortable with your experience.  That's why we cruise with you!

Q: Will I need a passport?

A: You will not need a passport for this cruise, but it is recommended.  If you do not have a passport, a birth certificate AND a valid drivers license will be required.

Q: Do I have to book this cruise with Horizon Cruise Planners to participate in the MTG event?

A: Yes, this is an exclusive event run by a travel agency and guests must book directly with Horizon to participate.

Q: How does food and drinks work on the cruise?

A: This cruise ship will have several amazing restaurant choices that are complimentary, including the main dining room.  There will also be dining options that will be at-cost if you choose.  Water and juices are included in your fare.  If you want soda or alcohol, you will either need to purchase a la carte, or buy a beverage package.

Magic the Gathering

Q: Who's running this event?

A: MagicAtSea is hosted by Nick Wallace with Horizon Cruise Planners.  Nick has been a travel agent for over 10 years and he has been playing MTG since 1994.  Nick is joined by his event organizer, Josh Roark and his judge, Zach Heller.

Q: How do the organized events work?

A: There will be two days of organized tournament play.  Guests will enjoy 2HG Sealed during the first event and normal Draft pods for the second event.  Don't worry, if you are a single player, we will pair you up!  The organized play will be done in the conference rooms on Deck 3.

Q: How does this event differ from say, my LGS?

A: Not only will you be making new friends on a state-of-the-art cruise ship, you will also receive a unique and custom MTG playmat.  In addition, you will have the chance to win unique and higher end prize pool items.  Playing Magic in the Caribbean, enjoying cold drinks, and making new friends, what's better than that?

Q: Why only two days of organized play?  Will there be casual play opportunities?

A: We have found that guests tend to want to enjoy their vacation as much as playing Magic and therefore, limit the event days to two.  However, there tend to be frequent casual play opportunities.  Guests can enjoy side drafts, EDH group play, trades, and casual gaming.  We encourage this!
